CC Aurora USB LAN Adapter - could it work?

This forum/product seems dead, but I'll try anyway:
Wifi is terrible on CC Aurora so I thought I'll try a USB ethernet adapter, but it does not work :/.
"Wired network" is greyed in the connection options so I can't do anything there. In some app providing USB devices list, I found the LAN adapter, so it's connected, but somehow not recognized? No drivers/support for that?
I tried ifconfig and netcfg from terminal, but I end with operation not permitted.
Has anyone tried some LAN adapter, is there any way to make it work?

or is there some way to root the system? I can't do anything so I think I can't solve the eth not connecting :/.
